I understand that conflict can be painful, stressful and disruptive, and yet, with the right tools, it can also be an opportunity for growth, learning and greater understanding. My work, and my passion, is to help you realize that opportunity. Whether it is through mediation or conflict coaching, I am eager to help you, your organization or your family, resolve your conflict so that you can move forward. As a mediator and coach, I listen deeply so the parties’ perspectives can be heard and understood; I also focus on and develop the key issues and emotions that are essential to an understanding of the conflict. In both mediation and coaching, my goal is to reduce tension and create calm, so that the parties can shed their anger and frustration, and move toward resolution.

Although originally trained as a lawyer, I was drawn to mediation and other alternative forms of conflict resolution because of their potential to resolve conflict peacefully. Thus, in 2005 I received my mediation training at the University of Washington. Since that time I have been handling workplace mediations for federal agencies through the Federal Executive Board, and mediating family and community matters for the King County Dispute Resolution Center. I have also handled mediations in the King County Small Claims Court. In order to continue to grow as a mediator, I have participated in numerous trainings, both through the bar association, and through Antioch College, with renowned mediators such as Nina Meierding, Kenneth Cloke and Joan Goldsmith.

In addition to my work as a mediator and trainer, I offer services as a conflict coach, having received conflict coaching training from Robin Amadei, through Common Ground Mediation Center in Lafayette, Colorado. My clients have found the conflict coaching process to be a powerful alternative to mediation in situations where only one party to a conflict is interested in mediation or where neither party is ready for mediation.

I graduated from Connecticut College in 1978, and received my J.D. degree from the University of Oregon in 1983, having also attended Stanford University School of Law from 1982-83. I am a member of both the California and Washington bars, and the King County Bar Association’s Alternative Dispute Resolution section. I am also an approved vendor for mediations for the State of Washington.

In addition to my mediation work, I taught both Business Law, and Negotiations, at Seattle University’s Albers School of Business, from 2006-2015.

My article, co-authored with T. Noble Foster, “The Promise of Confidentiality in Mediation: Practitioners’ Perceptions,” was published in the spring of 2009 in the University of Missouri School of Law’s Journal of Dispute Resolution.
